Hlas' AP Top 25 ballot for Oct. 21: Toledo in, West Virginia out

Oct. 21, 2012 9:18 am
OK, nobody likes told-you-sos. Especially when they come from someone who has a lot more things that could be thrown in his face as bad judgments.
I don't remember the teams I overrated earlier this season in the Associated Press Top 25. Who's got time to dwell on such things?
Yet, I vividly remember having Florida and Kansas State higher than just about anyone else on the 60-person AP panel for weeks. And now both are still unbeaten, and ranked No. 3 and No. 4.
Anyway, here's my ballot for this week, and it doesn't include West Virginia. You lose on consecutive weeks to anyone by a combined score of 104-28, you aren't Top 25 material.
1. Alabama (7-0)
2. Oregon (7-0). Florida and Kansas State have beaten better teams than the Ducks. But the eyeball test ... I think Oregon could go 14-0.
3. Florida (7-0)
4. Kansas State (7-0)
5. Notre Dame (7-0). The Irish are at Oklahoma Saturday. There goes their unbeaten record.
6. Oregon State (6-0)
7. LSU (7-1)
8. Oklahoma (5-1)
9. Ohio State (8-0). Plays at Penn State Saturday. Seldom has a midseason game with no league-title implications meant so much.
10. USC (6-1)
11. Florida State (7-1)
12. Clemson (6-1)
13. Mississippi State (7-0). The Bulldogs are at Alabama Saturday. And another unbeaten bites the dust. Mississippi State, that is, not 'Bama.
14. Texas Tech (6-1)
15. South Carolina (6-2). Cruel scheduling had the Gamecocks at LSU and Florida on consecutive weeks. Will be 9-2 when it heads to Clemson on Nov. 24.
16. Stanford (5-2)
17. Georgia (6-1)
18. Rutgers (7-0)
19. Texas A&M (5-2)
20. Michigan (5-2)
21. Louisville (7-0). Louisville is at Rutgers on Nov. 29. I hope both are 11-0 when they meet. I hope for a lot of things.
22. Louisiana Tech (6-1)
23. Toledo (6-1). Started the season with an overtime loss at Arizona. Beat previously unbeaten Cincinnati Saturday.
24. Wisconsin (6-2)
25. Penn State (5-2)
Here is the AP Top 25:
