From a media release:

ACT, Inc., has successfully completed all of the steps required to become a designated Blue Zones Worksite through the Blue Zones Project. ACT is one of the first organizations in Iowa to earn this designation.

The Blue Zones Project, a collaboration of WellmarkBlue Crossand Blue Shieldand Healthways, is a movement designed to create healthier, happier and more productive citizens who live longer and better lives.

Organizations can reach Blue Zones Project designation by creating work environments that promote and sustain well-being across six areas:  leadership, purpose, physical environment, engagement, well-being solutions and policies and benefits. In addition, cities and towns can become Blue Zones Communities(TM) by adopting principles and reaching goals in all sectors of the program.

Iowa Governor Terry Branstad has embraced the project, encouraging all Iowa communities to become Blue Zones Communities over the next five years as part of the Healthiest State Initiative. Iowa City, Cedar Rapids and Marion were recently named among 12 Blue Zones Project demonstration site finalists in Iowa.

"The Blue Zones Project closely aligns with ACT's goals in terms of corporate culture and wellness," said Sandy Stewart, ACT wellness manager. "In addition, we knew that Iowa City is vying to be a Blue Zones Project demonstration site, and we wanted to support that."

"ACT has been an exemplary partner in the Blue Zones Project initiative," said Nancy Quellhorst, president and chief executive officer of the Iowa City Chamber of Commerce. "Its dedication to employee wellness is well demonstrated in its policies and programs."
