Police are searching for a man who tried to lure a young girl into his vehicle while she was walking home from a Waterloo school Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

The girl was walking south on Stephan Street around 1:30 p.m. from Blessed Sacrament School, at 600 Stephan Avenue, when a man in a dark blue sport-utility vehicle pulled up beside her, stopped and told her to get into the car, a news release said. The girl took off running back to the school and was not harmed, officials said.

Police are searching for a dark blue SUV with an Iowa State University sticker on the back window. The driver was described as a black male in his 50′s or 60′s with black hair, a beard and tattoos on his neck.

The incident remains under investigation.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Waterloo police at (319) 291-2515.
