I support Linn County Auditor Joel Miller for re-election. Why? First, how many office holders gave back $281,000 of their budget in 2012? Answer, none except Miller.
Miller is on the side of the taxpayer and isn’t afraid to ask about questionable practices. Some of the things he has questioned: Why the county engineer was spending more on some contracts than the board had approved; why the first deputy in the sheriff’s office was being paid longevity pay when this was banned; and why former Supervisor Jim Houser claimed reimbursement for baggage and parking fees he did not incur.
Miller simply looks at whether something is right or wrong, legal or illegal, or whether it is cost effective and of value to the taxpayers. If other officeholders followed his example, I’m convinced many more tax dollars could be saved.
Miller is a man of integrity and his record shows he will not just go along, but will question things of dubious value. He is the right man for the job.
