As responsible voters, we have an obligation to become informed on the issues. Having watched the Live Feed, provided by IPTV and KCRG-TV9 on a snow day in December 2008, about the Varnum v. Brien case oral arguments from Des Moines, I feel informed to vote to retain the judiciary assigned to this case.
You can each search and read a summary of this decision. Inform yourselves before you vote to retain or remove an Iowa Supreme Court judge. It is your obligation to be an informed voter. It is in your interest to question the hidden agenda of others. By giving support to organizations who seek to discriminate against civil rights, you are promoting your own vulnerability to be discriminated against some day.
In 1967, Loving v. Virginia went before the U.S. Supreme Court for a decision on the civil rights of people of different races to legally marry. There was not vote. This decision made it legal for people of different races to legally marry.
Do your research people. Voting is a right and a privilege. Be responsible and be informed. Don’t follow like a lamb letting others make decisions for you.
The Iowa judiciary has been retained to make unbiased decisions of legal constitutional matters for all Iowans. We all want that, don’t we?
