Iowa City banker among ’25 Most Powerful Women to Watch’

Sue Evans, chief operating officer of Iowa City-based MidWestOne Bank, has been named among the “The 25 Most Powerful Women to Watch” in banking by American Banker magazine.

As chief operating officer, Evans is instrumental in the day-to-day banking activities at MidWestOne Bank and has played a key role in leading the bank to its strongest quarter in the company’s 78-year history.

Evans also led efforts to install a customer relationship management system across all of the MidWestOne’s 26 offices, setting strategy, and developing new lines of business such as trust, investments and insurance.

Evans joined MidWestOne’s predessor, Iowa State Bank & Trust Co., in 2001. She is chairwoman of the board of trustees at the Graduate School of Banking at Colorado, where she was the first female trustee in the school’s 62-year history.

Evans also serves on the board of directors at Des Moines-based SHAZAM, which provides ATM processing and other electronic funds transfer services to 1,500 financial institutions.
