One person has died in a traffic accident near Central City, authorities said.

Deputies responded to the crash site around 11:30 a.m., along the southbound lanes of Highway 13 south of Central City. According to the Linn County sheriff’s office, an elderly man was eastbound on Burnett Station Road when the pickup he was driving entered the highway and was struck by a southbound semi-trailer truck. The pickup ended up in the ditch.

The pickup driver, whose name has not been released, was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The semi driver, Robert Lawrence, 65, of Delhi, was not injured.

An investigation was still ongoing.

Traffic was blocked in the area earlier, but was flowing again as of 3 p.m. Check back for updates.
