Costs should show on both sides of the board

For several years I have tried to be a voice of moderation when making comments on The Gazette’s online news daily edition. I have complimented Gazette writers on well presented stories even when I did not necessarily agree with them. Good, fair journalism should be respected. I even stood up for The Gazette’s new online “comments” policy because I felt that most of the comments posted had become too negative and stricter moderation was appropriate. However, in lieu of the “comments” outlet to express the following opinion, I have decided to take my eyeballs elsewhere.

The Sept. 18 online story “University of Iowa spent just over $55,000 on Obama visit” is blatantly anti-Barack Obama. Yes, the text pointed out that UI was reimbursed $30,000, but for people looking for negative things to say about Obama, the headline was enough. I do not recall similar articles about the cost to Iowa municipalities when George W. Bush came to town. Shame on you, Gazette.
