Dusdieker, an orchid judge, said the Iowa City-based club decided to do a regional orchid show for the first time this year. They partnered with Kirkwood’s Floral Careers for the show, this Saturday and Oct. 7. He expects 350 orchid plants for judging and a dozen exhibits.
The event is free and will include orchids for sale by three vendors: Iowa Orchids from Des Moines, Orchids and Moore from Iowa City and Anything Orchids from Chicago. Judging by the American Orchid Society takes place Saturday morning before the show opens.
Several lectures are scheduled and the public can participate by selecting a People’s Choice Award for their favorite exhibit.
The event runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 7 in Kirkwood’s Horticulture/Floral Careers Building.
