Motorists traveling U.S. Highway 151 in east-central Iowa are being warned about cattle that escaped after an accident in the Monticello area.

Monticello Police Chief Britt Smith says the accident occurred about 12:15 a.m. Monday just north of mile marker 63. He says a semitrailer hauling cattle crashed in the northbound lanes, allowing some of the animals to escape.

Smith says the cattle owner and law enforcement officers are trying to round up the cattle.
