Mount Vernon man to serve 40 years for videotaping sex abuse of a child

CEDAR RAPIDS – A Mount Vernon man who produced videos of himself sexually abusing a child was sentenced Tuesday to 40 years in federal prison.

Kenneth Pappas, 38, formerly from Shellsburg, pleaded guilty in June to one count of sexual exploitation of a child and one count of possessing child pornography. According to evidence presented at sentencing, Pappas produced videos of his sexual abuse of a child 11 or 12 years of age between 2008 and July 2011.

Pappas must also serve a 10-year term of supervised release after serving his prison time and he must comply with all sex offender registration and public notification requirements.
