Six hurt in crash on Hwy. 150 near Independence

Four juveniles were in car that crossed center line

Six people were hurt in a three-vehicle accident Monday morning on Highway 150 north of Independence, authorities said.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 16-year-old driver from Hazelton was traveling southbound on Highway 150 around 7:40 a.m. Monday, when she crossed the center line into the northbound lane of traffic and struck two vehicles. The car first sideswiped a car and then struck a pickup nearly head on. The two vehicles were driving in the correct direction of traffic in the northbound lane prior to the collisions, authorities said.

All three drivers were transported to an Independence hospital by ambulance for non-life threatening injuries. The 16-year-old driver had a 7-year-old, an 11-year-old and a 13-year-old in the vehicle who also were transported to an Independence hospital for non-life threatening injuries, authorities said.

The accident remains under investigation and charges are pending.
