Rockwell Collins has been awarded a $21 million contract for initial production of six-by-eight-inch color cockpit displays for the fleet of U.S. Air Force B-1 aircraft.
The contract to replace 25-year-old avionics on the B-1 from Boeing Co. is part of the Air Force’s Integrated Battle Station Program. It follows successful execution of a development contract previously awarded to Rockwell Collins.
“This will be a very significant and much needed leap in cockpit display technology for B-1 aircrews,” said Dave Nieuwsma, vice president and general manager of Airborne Solutions for Rockwell Collins.
Upgrading the B-1′s current monochrome displays with advanced high-resolution displays will improve the situational awareness of pilots and reduce their workload, Nieuwsma added.
