Startup Weekend, a 54-hour business creation event, will run October 5 – 7 at the Pappajohn Business Building on the University of Iowa campus. ICAD Group helped host the event last year and is looking for bigger participation this year.
The event is targeted to anyone who has a scalable business idea, or can contribute to a larger team. Cedar Rapids tech start up RecBob came out of last year’s Startup Weekend. RecBob is a Facebook app that manages adult sports teams.
“This is a weekend where ideas become working businesses,” said Nolte. “Participants will not only work in teams on an idea, but will also learn more about innovation, technology and entrepreneurship.”
Nolte said that participants usually fall into one of four categories: coders, designers, developers and entrepreneurs. Tickets are $50; $35 for students.
