The University of Iowa announced plans for its Black & Gold Blowout, which takes place at 8 p.m. Oct. 19 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. It is the first public showing of the men’s and women’s basketball programs.

Tickets to the event, which go on sale on Monday at the UI Ticket Office, are $5 for adults and free for UI students and youth 18-and-under. All seating is general admission.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early with doors opening at 7 p.m. There will be a number of prizes awarded to fans who arrive early and both teams will sign autographs at the end of the event.

  1. What a crazy name for a sports event at Iowa. Didn’t the basketball team get the memo? It’s all about the uniforms. Do whatever you can to erase tradition and avoid school colors. Why not the Taupe and Maroon Thingamajig? Now surely that would entice the recruits who salivate at the prospect of wearing somethin’ funky.

    On second thought, maybe Fran should take over the football program. Then maybe Iowa would actually wear Hawkeye uniforms and recruit players who know how to score while playing a style that both players and fans can enjoy.
