An Iowa prosecutor suspended earlier this year for failing to do his job has been out of the office this week after suffering an adverse reaction to a prescription drug.

Attorney David Brown says his client, Appanoose County Attorney Richard Scott, was discharged from a Des Moines hospital Wednesday after spending several days getting care.

Brown says Scott took a prescription sleeping medication and had an adverse reaction at his home late Friday. He said police responded and got him treatment.

Brown says Scott recovered and intends to return to work.

Scott was suspended in May after regulators said cases were being dismissed because of his absences. The Iowa Supreme Court reinstated his law license after finding Scott wasn’t disabled, but ordered him to be closely monitored for 90 days.
