Flooding in New Orleans shouldn’t come as a surprise

While I feel bad for the people affected by Hurricane Isaac, this can hardly be a surprise. When you live in a city built below sea level in a hurricane zone, you are going to get flooded eventually.

We keep dumping tens of billions of dollars into a city that’s basically underwater. How smart are we? I was once told that owning a boat is like having a hole in the water you pour money into. Don’t you think New Orleans is like owning a boat?

Let’s spend our money to move these people inland and let Mississippi River silt bring New Orleans up to sea level.
