Cornell junior linebacker Geoffrey Miller picked up a pair of weekly accolades following a stellar defensive effort in the Rams’ 41-39 season-opening victory Saturday at Lawrence.

Miller was named Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday in the league’s initial voting of the fall. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound team captain was also recognized on the D3football.com Team of the Week, as one of four linebackers chosen.

Miller tied the school record for total tackles in a game with 22, a mark set by Matt Lindaman in 1988. Miller registered 16 tackles in the first half and finished the game with 11 solo stops.

It was Miller’s sixth double-digit tackle performance as a Ram. He raised his career tackle total to 201, most among current Rams.
