Details of Obama’s Iowa City visit announced

President Obama will be speaking Friday afternoon on the lawn of Jessup Hall on the University of Iowa Pentacrest, Obama campaign staffers announced Tuesday.

The president will be joined by his wife Michelle, vice president Joe Biden and Biden’s wife, Dr. Jill Biden, for the grassroots event.

It will be the president’s eighth trip to Iowa this year. He last visited Iowa City April 25, speaking about the rising costs of higher education in an event at the UI Field House.

The gates for the campaign event will open at 1 p.m., but organizers have not yet indicated when the event itself will begin.

Tickets are required for entrance. One ticket per person will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets will be distributed at the following locations beginning Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 9 a.m.:

  • Iowa Memorial Union Box Office, 125 North Madison St.
  • Obama For America Iowa City Field Office, 321 E. Market St.
  • Obama For America Coralville Field Office, 2781 Oakdale Blvd.
  • Obama For America, North Liberty Field Office, 70 Circle Dr.
  • University of Iowa Pentacrest Lawn, East side of Old Capitol Building, 21 North Clinton St.
