UPDATE: A rural Central City man faces a first-degree murder charge in the shooting death of a 47-year-old man early Friday, police said Monday.
Martin Paul Wilkinson, 63, was booked at the Linn County Jail Monday morning, Linn County Sheriff Brian Gardner said in a news release. He is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder and possession of firearms as a felon.
Wilkinson had been hospitalized at Mercy Medical Center after a standoff with authorities at his home Friday. He was being treated for injuries that appeared to have been suffered prior to the standoff, Gardner said.
Autopsy results released Monday indicate that the shooting victim, Gregory William O'Hare, 47, of Cedar Rapids, died of multiple gunshot wounds, Gardner said in the release. More information on the autopsy, conducted Saturday, will be released later by the State Medical Examiner's Office through the Linn County Medical Examiner.
Wilkinson is scheduled for an initial appearance at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Linn County District Court.
