NEW HIRES

Joshua Demmer (see photo) has joined Martin Design and Gardner Architecture in the Strawberry Point office as project architect. Demmer most recently was project architect for Invision Architecture in Waterloo.

The city of Marion announced that Amanda Kaufman (see photo) joined as assistant to the city manager. Kaufman was previously with the city of Olathe, Kan. Also, Amber Bisinger was hired as communications coordinator. She was previously with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

Shive-Hattery hired David Dobson (see photo) as education architect in Cedar Rapids, Joe Hentges (see photo) as project manager in Cedar Rapids and Lisa Schettler as an interior designer in Iowa City.

Great America Leasing Corp. of Cedar Rapids announced the following additions: Bo Brady (see photo) as systems support analyst II, Eric Conlon (see photo) as director-national accounts and Jen Amos (see photo) as property tax specialist.

Nathan Hauser (see photo) joined ME&V as Web graphic designer. Hauser previously was with Advanced Computer Engineering Solutions in Cedar Falls.

City Workplace Uniforms and Mats in Oelwein announced Chriss Carsello (see photo) was hired as sales manager.

St. Luke’s Hospital has appointed Kathy Hotz (see photo) as emergency department nurse manager. Hotz previously worked at Mercy Iowa City.

Millhiser Smith Agency Inc. in Cedar Rapids hired Shayna Fridinger (see photo) as risk consultant.

The Hotel at Kirkwood Center announced Anthony Green (see photo) as the new banquet chef. He came to Iowa as a part-time faculty member in the Kirkwood Hospitality Arts Program as well as Lead Cook in the Class Act Restaurant.

PROMOTIONS

City State Bank promoted Nathan Koch (see photo) to senior vice president and chief operating officer and Katie Lueken (see photo) to Marion branch manager and deposit support officer.

BOARD MEMBERS

Named to the SPANDA board in Cedar Rapids were Carrie DeSotel (see photo), Jeff Frink (see photo), Tom Miller (see photo), Jim Hall (see photo), Debbie Brooks (see photo) and Sue Warner (see photo).

Mary Junge (see photo) was elected to lead the Iowa Lottery Board for the next year. She has served on the board since 1999. Mike Klappholz (see photo), a retired chief of police in Cedar Rapids who has been on the board since 2006, was elected as vice chair.

Seminars

Join the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance from 8 to 9 a.m., Aug. 28, for Conquer the Creative Corridor, which is designed to familiarize attendees with the Corridor. Breakfast will be provided at this free event at 501 First St. SE.

The Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance, 501 First St. SE, Cedar Rapids, will present “Real Colors” from 8 to 10 a.m., Aug. 29. RThe workshop is designed to gain a better understanding of working styles.

The Iowa Finance Authority’s 2012 "Housing Iowa Conference: Strength in Partners" will be held Sept. 5 and 6 at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown. The conference is expected to attract more than 400 housing professionals from throughout the state and feedback will be sought on a comprehensive statewide housing study to determine future housing needs in Iowa. City Carton Recycling/Ockenfels Family Foundation Charity Golf Outings has raised $1 million for its children’s cancer program. The 18th Annual Charity Golf Outing was held Aug. 7.
