Iowa OL Coach Brian Ferentz (Cliff Jette/The Gazette)

None of what’s in this recording showed up in the published and electronic reports from Iowa football’s Media Day on Monday.

This was six minutes or so of new Iowa offensive line coach Brian Ferentz answering questions. I wrote about Ferentz Monday, but none of this was in that column. And what the heck, maybe you’d like to hear his thoughts from his own voice. I’m sorry about the scribbling noise in the background, but that was me … scribbling.

This is Ferentz explaining what “Preparing To Be The Best” means to him, talking about how he acted while watching Iowa games on television from afar, and if he had people who questioned why he would leave his New England Patriots assistant coach’s job to come back to Iowa.

So click on the link below, give it a listen, and maybe say what you think about it.

  1. This guy was a great interview as a player and he’s better now. The honesty and concision of thought, the clear diction, the absence of cliches and strategic Crash Davis pablum, is unusual. It’s hard to imagine his linemen not being amped to the max, every day in practice and every game on Saturday. Thanks for posting this interview. It’s going to be interesting watching his impact on Iowa football.
