Aug. 1, 2012 3:26 pm
Former Cedar Rapids RoughRiders center Jayson Megna has signed a free-agent contract with the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins. The two-year entry-level contract is worth an average annual value of $925,000, according to the Penguins.
Megna, 22, just finished his freshman season at Nebraska-Omaha. He played two years for the RoughRiders, including being the leading scorer and captain of the Riders' Anderson Cup winning team in 2010-11 for most regular-season points.
Megna was a first-team all-United States Hockey League selection in 2011. His younger brother, Jaycob, was taken in the seventh round of this year's NHL draft by the Anaheim Ducks.
