On Thursday, July 26 and Friday July 27 from 9:00 – 10:30 AM a group of high school students from Xavier, Kennedy, and Washington High Schools will be at Elmcrest Country Club pool conducting a water safety and swim clinic for at risk youth. SwimSafeCR was founded by John Richardson, a Xavier senior, in hopes of improving water safety and decrease the risk of drowning in children who are at risk. The program was modeled after a USA Swimming initiative, Make a Splash. After applying for and receiving a grant from the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation, SwimSafeCR has partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cedar Rapids. More than 40 elementary school aged children have registered for this two day clinic.
