A Washington, Iowa man is accused of eluding after deputies say they clocked him going 99 miles per hour in a 65  mile per hour zone before he led them on a chase while driving down the center line on Highway 218.

According to a complaint, 31-year-old Paul Westra was observed speeding on Highway 218 on a black motorcycle July 21.

When Johnson County deputies attempted to stop the motorcycle, the complaint said Westra continued to drive at an accelerated speed down the center line of the highway, passing several vehicles, before coming to a stop at the 92 mile marker.

When approached by deputies, Westra said he was driving fast because his throttle was stuck, the complaint said.
