Even after a long day of work, it's hard to shut down the photo-seeking part of my brain. If I stop talking or listening mid-sentence, it's more likely that I've spotted a photo than that I've lost interest in the conversation. And I'm sure I'm not the only photographer who would admit to being a distracted driver; between answering calls from editors and reporters, checking the map, eating a sandwich and chugging coffee, I'm also keeping an eye out for possible photos out of the corner of my eye. (And driving, of course. Really, I'm a safer driver than the preceding sentence might make you think.) On my way home from Solon Beef Days tonight, still picking hay out of my hair from
covering the hay bale toss, I spotted a magical combination of fog, fields and sunset, and quickly pulled onto the next gravel road. Racing against the light, I fought with my tripod for a bit too long, finally making a few quick frames before I lost the light.
Fog hangs over a corn field as the sun sets on Friday, July 20, 2012, near Bertram. (Liz Martin/The Gazette-KCRG)
