Des Moines-area utilities have issued another peak water alert and are asking residents to conserve.

The Des Moines Water Works and area utilities that receive water from the Des Moines utility issued the alert on Wednesday. It’s issued during a long stretch of hot, dry weather.

Officials say there’s sufficient water in rivers and reservoir storage to meet the present usage, but they might ask the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer to release water from Saylorville reservoir for the first time in 30 years.

Officials are asking residents to water lawns every other day and to run only full loads in the clothes washer and dishwasher.

A previous water alert for the Des Moines area was issued July 5.
