Iowa City West's Jeremy Morgan picks UNI
Jun. 27, 2012 10:09 pm
IOWA CITY - Iowa City West all-state guard Jeremy Morgan visited Northern Iowa on Wednesday and liked it so much he plans to stay for a while.
Morgan, a 6-foot-6 incoming senior, committed to the Panthers last night. He picked UNI over Iowa State, Drake, Rice, Weber State and Creighton. Morgan will sign his letter of intent in November.
"It was a great experience," Morgan said. "A lot of schools showed a lot of interest in me, and I'm thankful for that. I just picked UNI because I felt like it was the school that best fit me and it was close to home.
"For me most of the schools that offered me were most of the schools that I was looking at. I just felt like I didn't need to push it any further and made my decision."
Morgan led the Trojans to the Class 4A state title and 26-0 record last season. He averaged 14.8 points and led the team in assists. He was named first-team all-state last year. He also plays AAU basketball for the Iowa Barnstormers.
Morgan, the son of former Iowa player Michael Morgan, visited Iowa State on Monday when he received a scholarship offer from the Cyclones. But he felt UNI was the best fit for him and he particularly liked Coach Ben Jacobson.
"He's a great coach," Morgan said. "I think I fit in well in the offense that they run. He been a big part of the whole process. I loved playing with the guys. I can't wait."
