Greenwood auction -- Item(s) No. 5, the Big Finale
Marc Morehouse
Jun. 22, 2012 5:08 pm
Today's item is a print of Iowa kicker Rob Houghtlin before he made the game-winning field goal to lift No. 1 Iowa over No. 2 Michigan at Kinnick Stadium in 1985.
You remember it. It's a drawing of a photo of Houghtlin minutes before the kick, with the word "Faith" underneath. ALSO, there's a No. 7 jersey signed by Houghtlin!
More on the print: It is a canvas print (considerably more value). Also, it's 14x18 and there are only about five of them out there.
This is a donation from Sean Thompson, who is Thompson Graphics. You've seen his drawings on my blog and anywhere there's an Iowa gathering. He's donated a lot of time and energy to many causes Hawkeye, including the Brett Greenwood Foundation. Thanks so much, Sean (@Hawkart_Sean on Twitter)! You are a generous and large-hearted man!
Someone you might know recently purchased one of Sean's pieces. His name is Kirk Ferentz. Check this link.
More? More.
Gazette photographer Brian Ray is going to be a dad. Yay, Brian!!
To that end, he is clearing out his office to make room for the wee one. So, he's got a pair of framed photos from last year's card stunt game. They're 16x24 photos. Brian is quick to tell me they're not professionally framed and that he did his best.
So, pretty cool, right?
More? More.
The 2011 highlight DVD? That's happening. It's from Iowa football video coordinator Matt Engelbert, so you know it's the real thing.
Twitter friend @DportHawkiGirl offered a few vintage Hawkeye posters yesterday. The one that caught my eye was a 1982 double-sided football and men's basketball poster with "Hawkeye" from "Last of the Mohicans" heavily featured.
Here's a pic:
I'm going to let this auction run through the weekend. We'll close it up 2 p.m. Monday.
Starting bid of $250. Final item, let's make a push. I'm keeping this auction open until 5 p.m. Monday. I want to let it soak.
The totals: With E-mailer Mike's $500 for the Under Armour Hawkeye sweat suit from The Graphic Edge in Carroll, we're at $1,430. The Gazette maximum match has been reached, so we're up to $2,430. [Edit: Mike kicked in an extra $100.]
Thanks to everyone for the auction items and donations. I woke up Monday and winged this, not really knowing what I was going to give. John and Sean came through like champions!
Excellent work, Hawkeyes fans!
This auction is for Brett Greenwood, the former Iowa safety whose heart stopped beating on the field at his old high school last summer as he tried to make his way into the NFL. Brett remains in rehab. His family started the Brett Greenwood Foundation (follow this link) to raise funds for this lengthy journey.
Brett's recovery is ongoing. Let's do our best to help.
The Gazette has agreed to match what's raised here up to $1,000. That's happening. Let's make it $3,000!
Don't worry about mailing and delivery, we'll figure something out. Pay by check or PayPal.
Bid away and have fun. Any questions, my e-mail is marc.morehouse@sourcemedia.net. I'm also on Twitter (@marcmorehouse). You also can comment. I get back to most.
Thanks so much for your generosity!
