Man in custody after Cedar Rapids shooting

CEDAR RAPIDS - One man was in custody and another was taken to a hospital after a shooting in the 4800 block of First Avenue West on Thursday afternoon.

Sgt. Robert Collins of the Cedar Rapids Police Department said the injured person was shot in the hip, but he could not say how many times.

He said the man in custody could be considered a “possible suspect” or a “person of interest.”

One witness said he heard four gunshots from a cluster of apartment buildings around 4 p.m. Collins said officials were still trying to determine exactly where the shooting took place. He also said it wasn't yet known what led to the shooting.
