University of Iowa wrestling coach Tom Brands mentioned he would be more comfortable if it were a foot race, but seemed to enjoy his first practice laps in a Legends race car at Hawkeye Downs Speedway.

Brands, along with Van Meter Chief Financial officer Mick Slinger and Mark Ironside will compete in a 15-lap race during Van Meter Night, benefiting Aiming For A Cure at the track Friday. Feature races begin at 7:30 p.m. and admission, going to Aiming For A Cure, is a minimum of $1 donation. Regular ticket prices are $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and $5 for anyone 12 and older.

Brands shares his expectations about the celebrity race.

Brands had his first practice laps around the quarter-mile oval. He never has raced. Watch the former Olympic gold medalist and three-time NCAA champion and four-time All-American for the Hawkeyes get his feet wet.

Brands practiced more with another car on the track and said it added to the experience.

"It's intoxicating," Brands said. "When you're out there behind another driver, you can smell the fuel and his brakes. It's awesome."

Ironside is driving the white #32 Legends car. Brands, in the red #95 (I believe), is also on the track.
