Former Cedar Rapids RoughRiders defenseman Alec Martinez was a part of the Los Angeles Kings team that clinched the Stanley Cup on Monday night with a 6-1 win over the New Jersey Devils.

Martinez played in all 20 postseason games for the Kings, recording a goal and two assists. He is the first former RoughRiders player to win a Cup while playing in the finals.

Justin Abdelkader played two regular-season games for the 2008 Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings, but never played in the postseason. Martinez and Abdelkader were teammates on Cedar Rapids’ 2004-05 Clark Cup USHL championship team.

Another member of the Kings organization with local ties is Mark Mullen. The former RoughRiders assistant coach is a scout for Los Angeles who still makes his home in Cedar Rapids.
