Penn State head coach and former unbeaten Iowa State four-time NCAA champion Cael Sanderson decided that he will not compete at the 2012 USA Wrestling U.S. Olympic Wrestling Team Trials on April 21-22 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City.

Sanderson discussed his decision with the Centre Daily Times in State College, Pa. Read Travis Johnson’s story Cael Sanderson decides against competing.

Sanderson said it wasn’t a difficult decision, but didn’t rule out a later comeback. He was a 2004 gold medalist at the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

The 32-year-old said his duty as a father and the Nittany Lions’ head coach were more important than focusing on making and representing the Olympic team again.
