Jarrod Uthoff, Iowa’s high school “Mr. Basketball” in 2011, is leaving Wisconsin’s basketball program without having played a game for the Badgers.

Uthoff red-shirted in the 2011-2012 season. If he wants to play Division I ball, he’ll have to sit out the 2012-2013 season and would have three seasons of eligibility remaining.

Uthoff was the Mississippi Valley Conference’s Player of the Year in 2011 after averaging 26.2 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.2 blocks per game in senior season for Cedar Rapids Jefferson.

He was recruited by Iowa and other D-I schools before selecting Bo Ryan’s Wisconsin program.

  1. Hawks could really use another power forward is he interested or is it non-sports related. I would hope Iowa would have the inside track.

    • I have no idea this soon, Lon. It’s unusual for a player to transfer from one Big Ten school to another.

  2. I’m reading now there is a possible lose of scholarship if he plays for a Big Ten school. But hey, rules are meant to be broken! Just ask Ben Brust and Wisky.

    • Don’t think that’s a “possible.” I think it’s a conference rule that you can’t get an athletic scholarship if you go in-conference, if the releasing school even allows it.

  3. Yep, if he goes to Iowa he has to pay his own way. That is the conference rule, and likely he’s going mid-major at this point. Maybe juco even, for a year. Too bad. Making the right decision out of H.S. is not easy. There’s always UNI.
