This is the Twitter feed of Kirk Bohls, who's covered Texas for the Austin American-Statesmen since when I was in college. I was told today that Greg Davis is "a super nice guy" and "transparent." So, I'm guessing Bohls has an "in" with Davis and this is so.
So, there’s the tweet.
Kirk Bohls has covered Texas for the Austin American-Statesman for several years. He tweeted that Greg Davis, who served as the Longhorns’ offensive coordinator for 12 seasons before resigning in 2010, has accepted the offensive coordinator position at Iowa.
Officially from the University of Iowa, coach Kirk Ferentz is on the annual coaches cruise and can’t be reached for comment. The stop today is Antigua. Maybe they have phones in Antigua. So, still no official word.
UI sports information director Steve Roe, who would neither confirm or deny the hire, said Iowa likely won’t release anything Wednesday night.
Another Texan with a big mouth. Who’d have thought it? Come on, fellas, Ferentz and his crew are up on the Lido deck eating pizza and scrambled eggs 24 hours a day, and trying to remember starboard from port. Aargh, matey, give me a break.
Lido deck!?!?!? Nicely done, Paul. I LOL’d.
Marc, you need to use call Ferentz on his cell. We all know you have it – just be sure not to TEXT him because Kirk doesn’t understand how that phone-typing thing works yet….
I wish. We haven’t talked on the phone for a couple of years.
Why did Greg Davis resign in 2010? If he is such a hot comodity, why is he unemployed? He looks like an old guy ready for retirement. How old is he? I bet he is close to Norm Parker’s age! Uuugh!
He’ll be 61 this year, Richard. Norm retired at 70. I don’t see how age factors. I also think there’s counter-balance with Brian Ferentz (29) and LeVar Woods (34).
But he is unemployed. He would still be at Texas, but he resigned (forced) after the 5-7 2010 season. Mack Brown wanted more pro-style punch.
Maybe I should post my story on him, but I’d rather wait until it’s official.
Just post it Marc. You know you want to! I think this would be a great hire. He did some great things at Texas, plus it gives us another avenue to recruit in Texas.
