Police were waiting when a Cedar Rapids teenager allegedly went to a post office to pick up a package of marijuana.
Kyle J. Cole, 19, of 202 66th Ave. SW, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and a drug tax stamp violation. He is accused of having about 340 grams, or about three-quarters of a pound, of marijuana shipped to Cedar Rapids.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said employees at the U.S. Post Office at 1930 Wiley Blvd. SW noticed that a package smelled like marijuana and called the authorities. Police were told an approximate time of when Cole would be arriving, and were waiting at the post office when he arrived around 9:30 a.m.
Inside the package was a container holding 299.1 grams of marijuana and a baggie containing another 42.5 grams. Police seized it as evidence.
Hamblin said investigators work with postal service officials to trace the package backward. She said there was no indication in the police report about who sent this most recent package.
Cole was taken to the Linn County Jail. He was released after posting bond.
