DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Mount Mercy men’s bowling team debuted at the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships over the weekend, placing eighth in the overall team standings at Cherry Lanes.
Bryan Tippett finished just out of the top 10 for the Mustangs, finishing 11th with 1,177 pins and an average of 196.17 over six games. Freshman Ryan Schlueter totaled 1,157 pins in six games for 192.83 average to place 15th. Freshman Nathan Wright was 30th (1,029 pins/171.50 avg./6 games), freshman Dylan Walters tief for 31st (994/165.67/6), freshman Ryan Miller 49th (849/169.80/5) and freshman Austin Patterson 73rd (145/145.00/1).
In the overall team standings, William Penn topped the list with 6,064 pins and an average of 1,010.67 over six games. The Statesmen were followed by St. Ambrose (5,870/978.33), Viterbo (Wis.) (5,703/950.50), Ashford (5,601/933.50), Clarke (5.536/922.67), Grand View (5.373/895.50), Mount Mercy (5,351/891.83) and Waldorf (4,527/754.50).
The MCC champion was determined by a match play tournament with each team seeded based on the final overall team standings. The Mustangs were seeded seventh and fell in the first round, two games to none to second-seeded St. Ambrose. Fourth-seeded Clarke defeated third-seeded Viterbo, 2-0, in the championship to claim the MCC crown.
Mount Mercy travels to Indianapolis, Ind., this weekend for the Backhaul Direct Hoosier Classic at Western Bowl.
