Sometimes the Wild Art Gods Smile Upon You

Tim Hautt swings on a rope swing with his daughter Emily, 2, Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, in northeast Cedar Rapids. Hautt took advantage of the warm temperatures and an afternoon off work to play with his children. (Jim Slosiarek/The Gazette-KCRG-TV9)

I usually get a tight feeling in my gut when I see the text, “Need warm weather photo” appear on my phone’s screen. The image of my odometer spinning around, like a Bugs Bunny cartoon, as I put miles on my car in search of any activity enters my mind.

Not today!

It was a sunny, blue sky kind of day with temperatures was in the mid 40′s and I was feeling lucky.

After driving to some of my usual feature hunting grounds, I headed in the direction of Mount Mercy University. I was hoping some crazy students would be using the volleyball court or maybe throwing a Frisbee around. That was when I spied Tim Hautt spending time with his two children, Kyle, 4, and Emily, 2, in the front yard of his home.

A spent around eight minutes with Hautt and his children. Waiting until he was swinging in the direction and angle to make the picture I had envisioned.
