Robbery reported at Iowa City bank

Incident the third to occur at an I.C. bank near closing time since November

IOWA CITY — Iowa City police confirmed they are responding to a call of a bank robbery at the U.S. Bank on Mormon Trek Blvd at approximately 5:30 p.m.

The U.S. Bank is located at 2312 Mormon Trek Blvd., on the southwest side of Iowa City.

Police couldn’t give out any further information at this time.

This is third reported robbery to occur at an Iowa City bank near closing time since November.

According to police, a white male entered the same U.S. Bank on Mormon Trek Blvd. on Nov. 18 armed with a handgun at 5:21 p.m. On Dec. 16, a white male armed with a handgun entered the MidWestOne Bank on Rochester Ave. at 5:27 p.m., police said.

Police said the robberies might be related.
