State investigators are involved after a woman died Monday morning in rural Poweshiek County.

Sheriff Thomas Sheets confirmed deputies responded around 6:30 a.m. Monday to a report of an unconscious female at 3018 220th St., north of Hartwick. The woman, identified as Lydia Wisner, 36, was pronounced dead at Grinnell Regional Medical Center, authorities said.

Sheets said the death is considered suspicious.

"Things just didn't look right," said Sheets, who declined to be more specific.

An autopsy will be performed at the state medical examiner's office in Ankeny, Sheets said. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation was assisting with the investigation.

The 220th Street property is owned by Seth J. Wisner and Lydia L. Miller, according to online assessor records. An obituary for Lydia's mother, who died Jan. 20, indicates her maiden name was Miller.

Calls to the DCI were not immediately returned.
