Employees at an Earl May Nursery and Garden Center in Cedar Falls are trying to save two cats who call the store home.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports that the company issued a memo to its 33 stores in Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas, forbidding pets in the stores. The memo, reported by the newspaper Thursday, cited a cat adoption service started at one store and the expense it was costing the company, as well as liability concerns.
Employee Rich Congdon says the cats, named Steve and Ginny, greet customers and save the store money on pest control by killing rodents.
He says employees asked customers to sign a petition if they would miss the cats. So far, 50 people have signed.
I’m no cat lover…but…cats are good at getting rodents…how much do you suppose a big Corp will lose in customer cash if this is to go through….I’ll bet more than a few dollars for cat food…and don’t forget about the benefits of the extra fertilizer in the potting soil…
