PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz. — Kirk Ferentz likes wrestling. His sons have been terrific wrestlers at Iowa City High. Some of his recruits, like Austin Blythe of Williamsburg, had storied prep wrestling careers.

Ferentz lives in Iowa and works at the University of Iowa, after all.

So it is that Ferentz is among the list of luminaries who are participating in a fundraising event to raise funds for the Hawkeye Wrestling Club.

Ferentz, Iowa football strength coach Chris Doyle, Hawkeye wrestling coaches Tom and Terry Brands, and interim Hawkeyes defensive line coach LeVar Woods will join some HWC members on Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. as they leap into a body of water (outdoors) at Riverside Casino and Resort. It’s called the Arctic Plunge.

“How do you say no to those guys?” Ferentz said Thursday after his Insight Bowl press conference. “They’ll break my arm or dislocate my shoulder.

“I’m a huge fan, obviously.

“I think that involves cold water if I remember. But how do you say no to those guys?”

Money raised by HWC goes directly to benefitting its athletes with living expenses, training and traveling needs as they train to pursue Olympic and World championships.
