Ryan Bowen takes job with NBA's Denver Nuggets (with McCaffery quotes)
Dec. 9, 2011 1:17 pm
Iowa administrative assistant Ryan Bowen has accepted a job with the NBA's Denver Nuggets. He will have a variety of roles from scouting to video to coaching.
Bowen, a Fort Madison native, played for 10 years in the NBA, including five seasons in Denver. He played at Iowa from 1995-98 and is the school's all-time record holder for steals with 208. He ranks fourth in blocks (124), eighth in rebounds (804), and 33rd in points (1,090).
Bowen, 36, retired from the NBA following the 2009-10 season after one game with Oklahoma City. He joined the Iowa basketball staff last year as an administrative assistant/video coordinator.
""I'm real happy for him," Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery said. "I think it's a great opportunity. He's got a number of years of experience in the NBA. Obviously the Nuggets, who he played for, thought very highly of him and wanted back.
"I think for him it was a good situation."
