Semi carrying crane hits Cedar Rapids bridge
CEDAR RAPIDS - Officers say a semi carrying a crane drove under a bridge on I-380 and part of the crane scraped the bottom of the bridge.
Cedar Rapids police responded to an accident at the intersection of I-380 and 7th street Thursday afternoon. When the crane made contact with the bridge, pieces of the concrete support structure fell off the bridge and landed on the interstate.
There are no reports that any of the debris hit vehicles driving under the bridge at that time.
The commotion backed up traffic in the southbound lane of I-380 but police didn't have to shut down the interstate.
An investigation is ongoing.
