This isn’t a commentary on anything. It’s just a quick roundup of some Iowans and former University of Iowa basketball players who are now playing beyond Iowa.

Aaron Fuller, former Hawkeye: Averaging 13.9 points and 6.6 rebounds for USC (3-4 before Wednesday).

Ben Brust, former Hawkeye recruit: Averaging 12.8 points for Wisconsin (6-0 before Wednesday).

Jordan Printy, Marion (Linn-Mar High): Averaging 10.1 points for Indiana State (6-1).

Doug McDermott, Ames High: Averaging 23.4 points and 7.8 rebounds for Creighton (5-0 before Wednesday).

Grant Gibbs, Marion (Linn-Mar High): Averaging 8.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 5.4 assists for Creighton.

Harrison Barnes, Ames High: Averaging 17.3 points for North Carolina (5-1 before Wednesday).

Brennan Cougill, former Hawkeye from Sioux City: Averaging 6.3 points and 5.5 rebounds for Wisconsin-Green Bay (2-4)

Kaylon Williams, Cedar Rapids (Kennedy High): Averaging 10.6 points and 6.0 assists for Milwaukee (5-1).

Jeff Peterson, former Hawkeye: Averaging 4.2 points and 2.3 assists for Florida State (5-2 before Wednesday).

David Palmer, former Hawkeye: Completed his college career at Northern Kentucky last year. Now averaging 6.0 points and 4.5 rebounds for Bakersfield of the NBA D-League.

This wasn’t meant to be a comprehensive list. But if you think there is a glaring omission, pass it along.

Iowans and ex-Hawkeyes doing nicely out of state
  1. Todd Lickliter averaging $63,000 a year at Miami, OH

  2. You mean a month, right?

  3. Lickliter replaced Jimmy Lallathin, who was the #3 guy on the bench and took a more senior assistant coaching position at Kennesaw State. Now, call me jaded but I’m betting Miami pays a #3 assistant coach in the 5 digits. Besides, Iowa is paying Lickliter’s salary for the foreseeable future.

  4. Ex-recruit, Cody Larson, RS frosh for Florida is averaging 10 minutes a game, 1.7 pts, 1.5 rebounds.

Ex-Hawk, Anthony Tucker is redshirting for Minnesota State Moorhead.

Ex-Hawk, Cully Payne is redshirting at Loyola.

Seth Tuttle (Sheffield), Iowan, averaging 7 points and 6 rebounds for Northern Iowa (6-1).

Austin Pehl (Cedar Falls), Iowan, averaging 2 pts, 2 rebounds for Northern Iowa.

Max Martino (Cedar Rapids), Iowan, playing sparingly for UNI off the bench.

Matt Morrison (Solon), Iowan, averaging 7 points/G. Hit 4 threes vs. ISU last time out.

Bubu Palo (Ames), Iowa, averaging 5 points and 2 assists a game for Iowa State (5-2).

Jarryd Cole playing for Keflavik Iceland in the Express League. Averaging 34+ minutes a game, 17 points per game and 10 rebounds per game. His team is 5-2.

  5. Good article, Mike. What are you trying to say with your cleverly labeled title? It’s funny how you preface the article with “This isn’t a commentary on anything.” Why even write the article if that is the case? Williams and Printy are the only players that we could have actually recruited and retained. How good would they be in the
Big Ten? Not any better than Gatens, May or Marble, whom are all struggling. All of the other players listed were recruited or decommitted. Great article though, mentioning Harrison Barnes (number 1 overall recruit) or McDermott (going wherever daddy coached) in your list.

    • Jack:

You really find something sinister in this? Are we to totally forget anyone who has ever worn the Iowa uniform once they leave? Are we to totally ignore anyone who played ball in Iowa but didn’t serve the Hawkeyes?

I regret just one thing, and that’s forgetting to put Doug Thomas (of Reno in the D-League) on the list.
