CEDAR RAPIDS - A 30-year-old man identified by family members as Andre Allen died after being shot in the street in southwest Cedar Rapids late Saturday.
On Monday morning, police identified the victim as Andre Roger Herron, 30.
Police responded to the 800 block of Seventh Street SW just after 11 p.m. and confirmed that two shots had been fired. The victim was taken to Mercy Medical Center by ambulance with serious injuries, an officer said; he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Allen's father, Albert Allen of Chicago, said his son moved to Cedar Rapids from Chicago four or five years ago.
“If anyone knows anything, please come up and let me know or let the police know, so we can get justice,” he said Sunday.
Police released few details, and authorities have not said if there are any suspects or if any arrests have been made. Allen's relatives said they've received little information from the police so far since they arrived in Cedar Rapids around 4 p.m. Sunday.
“We want closure,” said cousin Johnny Allen of Chicago. “All we want is answers for the family.”
Police said they will likely have more information on the investigation this morning.
“For you to take somebody's life, that means you really really have trouble with yourself,” Johnny Allen said. “If you have a conscience, you need to turn yourself in.”
