A 52-year-old transient man pleaded guilty to willful injury causing serious injury at a pretrial conference Tuesday for allegedly stabbing a transient man in the back near downtown Iowa City in June 2010.
Raymond Spears was charged in August with attempted murder and willful injury causing serious injury.
At the time of the incident, police said the victim appeared to have multiple stab wounds on his back.
A sentencing date has not been set on the willful injury charge, but Assistant Johnson County Attorney Anne Lahey said Spears could serve a mandatory prison sentence of up to 10 years for the class C felony.
