Iowa center Andrew Brommer

IOWA CITY — Iowa senior center Andrew Brommer sat in street clothes Friday night as his team demolished Chicago State 96-53 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Brommer sprained the MCL in his right knee shortly before practice began last month. He has worked out with the team this week but was unable to play,  Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery said. But Brommer could play Monday against North Carolina A&T.

“I think there’s a good chance,” McCaffery said. “He’s going to practice (Saturday) full, then we’ll see how he holds up. If he holds up well, we’ll practice him on Sunday. If he holds up well, we’ll play him on Monday. If there’s any setback or soreness, we won’t.”

Devon Archie started in Brommer’s place, and the results were mixed. Archie scored four points and had two rebounds in 17 minutes but was beaten often inside by Chicago State’s post players. Freshman Gabe Olaseni played nine minutes at center and scored eight points and grabbed four rebounds.
