More statistics from Iowa-Minnesota
Oct. 31, 2011 1:49 pm
In case you need a few more numbers to look at following Iowa's 22-21 loss at Minnesota, here are a few more:
- Minnesota held the ball for 13 minutes, 25 seconds in the fourth quarter. That's longer than Minnesota has possessed the ball in five separate halves this season, let alone in one quarter. Only twice this season have the Gophers held the ball for at least 10 minutes in a quarter and none in Big Ten season.
- Minnesota rushed for 178 yards against Iowa, only the second time in the last 19 Big Ten games Minnesota has rushed for more than 165 yards. The other? The Gophers' 216 last year against Iowa.
- Minnesota's 102-yard rushing output in the fourth quarter was more than Gophers rushed for against Purdue and Michigan in the entire game.
- The Gophers are 3-11 in their last 14 Big Ten games, with two wins coming against Iowa.
- In the Big Ten, Minnesota entered the game ranked last in scoring offense (17.4 ppg), scoring defense (35.9 ppg), total offense (293.7 ypg) and sacks (five total), and was 11th in total defense (428.6 ypg). Against Iowa, the Gophers scored 22 points, allowed 21, gained 371 yards and earned three sacks.
Minnesota players celebrate with the Floyd of Rosedale trophy and fans after their 22-21 win against Iowa at TCF Bank Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, in Minneapolis. (Liz Martin/SourceMedia Group News)
