A man found dead Friday inside his Marion apartment died of natural causes, according to an obituary, but police said an investigation is still ongoing.
Greg Morris, 60, was found dead inside his apartment, 825 26th St., No. N3, on Friday afternoon. Police said a family friend who is known to stop by and check on Morris discovered his body and called 911.
Police have called the death "suspicious," but an obituary that ran Monday in The Gazette said Morris died of natural causes. Lt. Scott Elam said an autopsy was performed Saturday at the state medical examiner's office in Ankeny, but results of additional testing, including toxicology tests, were not yet known.
"We're holding judgment until we get everything back," said Elam, when told of the obituary.
Neighbors who lived in Morris' building told SourceMedia Group at least eight people were taken to the police station for interviews on Friday afternoon. One neighbor, who declined to give his name, said he cleaned up blood leading to Morris' apartment door during the week.
Police said there is no known threat to public safety. Elam said no suspects are currently being sought. No more details were expected to be released until at least next week, he said.
